Preconception care

Focusing on optimal health for prospective parents before conception occurs to optimise your chances of a healthy conception, pregnancy, birth and baby is a area of health care that we are passionate about.

Our programme focuses on nutrition, detoxification, lifestyle change, stress management and natural medicine to improve general health and address any pre-existing conditions.

When should we book a preconception care appointment ?

As it take 4 months to make healthy sperm and 3 months to produce healthy eggs, booking an appointment at least 4 months before you want to start trying to conceive is ideal.

 

Does my partner need to come to the consultation?

It is ideal if both partners can come to the initial consultation.   More and more research is showing that the male's health is very important in helping to achieve a healthy pregnancy and baby.  In fact unhealthy sperm is implicated in miscarriage more that the women's health is.

How long will a consultation take ?

Your initial consultation will be approximately 90 minutes, follow up appointments will take 30 -60minutes

What will be prescribed?

Depending on your health and your partners health at the time of your first appointment you may both be prescribed herbal medicine, nutritional supplements and herbal teas. 
You may also be advised to improve your dietary choices and also change some lifestyle habits if that is indicated.  Other factors that are addressed are work and home environments, for example are you exposed to environmental toxins, due to your work or living situation.  If this is the case you will be given strategies to lessen the effects of this on your health.

Will other tests be required?

you may be required to have clinical tests done these may include

• allergy testing
• hormonal testing
• zinc tests
• toxic metal exposure
