Laboratory Testing

Laboratory Testing at Nourish Herbal Clinic

We have access to a range of specialized testing that may be helpful for you if your health issues are complex. During your consultation we may recommend testing to further explore your health conditions and to quickly evaluate what state of health your body is really in.

We can then evaluate the results and identify the most effective course of treatment. Testing can also help with streamlining the herbal medicine and nutritional supplements that we may prescribe for you. This can save you lots of time and money on your path to optimal health.

Subsequent testing can show the progress you are making with your treatment.

Testing can also help you to take a truly pro-active part in preventative health care, this is helpful if you have any health issues in your family that you may be concerned about as these tests can provide early identification of disease risk factors along with free radical stress, adrenal patterns, bowel toxicity, vitamin deficiencies, early aging and more.
General in-clinic tests may include:
Blood pressure

This is a standard clinical measure of general wellbeing and cardiovascular health.
Tongue examination
Certain signs, (colour, shape, coating, cracks) will indicate whether there is a hot or cold condition (requiring cooling or heating herbs), whether there is a problem of excess (e.g. due to over eating), or deficiency (e.g. due to poor sleep).
Nail examination
Again your nails can indicate such things as mineral status, tendency to certain conditions, and your recent health status.
Conventional pathology tests

These may be ordered, if further information is required. For example: to check cholesterol levels, measure inflammatory markers, or compare hormone levels.
A/B/O Blood type testing
This is a simple finger prick, the result will help if you are interested in following the eat right for your type diet by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo.
Zinc taste test
This is helpful to evaluate your current zinc levels.
Urinary Indican test
This test is an accurate, simple and inexpensive screening tool, allowing identification of the putrefaction of protein in the gastrointestinal tract. As we know, the gut is the seat of health – a positive test reflects a state of intestinal bacterial in-balance, compromising optimal wellbeing.
More in-depth testing:
These tests are an extremely efficient way of focusing on you and your health as the unique individual that you are. Combining testing with a personal consultation with our qualified practitioners is truly personalized medicine and healthcare.

Hair Analysis for food allergies and intolerances
By testing a sample of your hair we can assess food allergies and intolerances in your diet. The hair test makes it easy for you to exclude the substances you are most sensitive to from your diet or surroundings.
Hair Analysis for your vitamin and mineral status
This approach may also help to detect and correct vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
Hair mineral toxic minerals analysis

This laboratory test measures the mineral and heavy metal content of hair. It is particularly beneficial when heavy metal accumulation is suspected - a hair measurement is more indicative of actual body stores, whereas blood measurements show more recent exposure. Toxic metals do not have any useful physiological function. They adversely affect virtually every organ system and disrupt the balance of nutrients.
Urine Toxic Mineral Analysis and Essential Element Status
Assessment of toxic mineral retention.
This test also helps to monitor detoxification therapy.
Comprehensive digestive stool analysis
This is a comprehensive examination of the stool (performed at a laboratory) which examines the presence of parasites, the pH of the stool, the balance of friendly to unfriendly bacteria and the by-products of digested carbohydrates, fats and protein (indicating digestive ability).
IgG/A food sensitivity test

This functional pathology test assesses the presence of allergy or sensitivity to over 90 different foods. We may request this if there is a strong link between dietary sensitivity and your condition.
Detoxification Profile
Evaluates the genetic factors associated with an increased risk of impaired detoxification capacity, particularly when the individual is exposed to environmental toxins. It also identifies individuals potentially susceptible to adverse drug reactions.
Functional Intracellular Nutritional Deficiency Analysis
Vitamin, mineral and antioxidant deficiencies suppress immune function and contribute to chronic degenerative processes such as arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This blood test will measure the functionality of micronutrients within your white blood cells to determine deficiencies associated with disease processes and overall health levels.
Antioxidant Profile
Scientific evidence indicates that adequate amounts of antioxidants can help offset premature aging, cardiovascular disease and arthritis.
Comprehensive Stool Analysis
Gastrointestinal (GI) complaints are among the most common reasons that patients seek medical care. Symptoms associated with GI disorders include persistent diarrhea, constipation, bloating, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome and mal-absorption. A Comprehensive Stool Analysis with Parasitology may be used to assess digestive and absorptive functions, the presence of pathogens, and to monitor the efficacy of treatments for GI disorders.
Cortisol testing for Adrenal Function
We tend to lead frenetic, unbalanced lifestyles. Chronic exposure to stressors (physical and emotional) can eventually lead to adrenal fatigue. This simple non-invasive test utilizes four saliva samples collected at specified time periods throughout the day.
Also available are tests for cardio metabolic profile, the complete thyroid profile and male and female hormone profiles,
These tests mentioned here are indications of what is available; we may recommend other testing on an individual basis according to your situation.
